Sometimes you get lucky. I was playing around with long shutter times and deliberate panning blur when I happened to find this strong tree shape in the middle of all the lovely warm autumn colors. Most of my pans were horizontal, but for this one I tried vertical instead and this is the result. No blur has been added afterwards, I have only adjustet the contrast and colors a bit to make it slightly more dramatic. Rally happy with the result too and already wondering if I can do it again …

Monday, May 16th, 2011Showing off a bit of post processing, this is two pairs of images straight from the camera and how they came out after some treatment. The first one is modified with temperature, black level, fill light, localized contrast and a couple of graduated filters that darkens the sky and lightens the ground.
The second is an example of play with composition. It’s exaggerated so that the sky is slightly brighter and the ground a lot darker, then cropped to a square and cut in half to make up a very symetrical black and white tile. I’m also using a grayscale treatment that darkens the blue colors of the ocean.
